Sparky

Sparky's story began high in the mountains, where two mothers gave birth to seventeen puppies in the wild, hidden beneath thick bushes and far from safety. Thankfully, the little family was found in time and brought to Hopeland, giving Sparky the chance to grow up protected and surrounded by people who care for him.

Sparky is now fully grown, but he remains one of the more sensitive and fearful dogs of his siblings. New people and unfamiliar situations can be overwhelming for him, and building trust takes time. He is not a dog who will immediately come over asking to be touched or cuddled – and his future family needs to be prepared for the possibility that allowing physical affection may take quite a while.

But Sparky is learning.
Treats are one of the best ways to reach him, and with patience, calmness, and positive experiences, he is slowly becoming more curious and willing to approach. Every little step he chooses to take towards a person is meaningful, and his progress shows us that there is a gentle dog behind his fear who simply needs the right environment to continue coming out of his shell.

With other dogs, Sparky is much more comfortable. Their presence gives him orientation and helps him navigate situations that can still feel difficult on his own. For this reason, Sparky should be adopted into a home with another dog – ideally a confident and secure companion who can show him that everyday life is safe, while also being calm enough to respect Sparky's space and not overwhelm him.

His future family should have patience and realistic expectations. Sparky will need to learn about life outside the shelter at his own pace – from walking on a leash and living inside a home to all the unfamiliar sounds, routines, and experiences that come with becoming a family dog. Progress with him cannot be rushed or measured in days.
Sparky is fully grown at around 25 kg.

He isn't the dog for someone looking for an instant cuddle buddy. He is looking for people who understand that sometimes the greatest privilege is simply watching a frightened dog realise, little by little, that he is finally safe.

Sparky may need time before he gives you his trust – but he deserves someone willing to wait for it.
