Phos

Around May 2025, Phos was found barely holding onto life. His body was exhausted, severely wounded, and clinging to existence by a thread. His story travelled around the world after it was shared by The Dodo – but what matters most today is no longer how Phos was found.

It's who he has become.

Now that his body has healed, we finally get to see the dog who was hiding underneath all that pain. And perhaps the most beautiful surprise of all is just how young, joyful, affectionate, and full of life Phos truly is.

Phos absolutely loves people. He seeks closeness and attention, enjoys affection, and has an enormous amount of love to give. After everything he has been through, he seems more than ready to make up for lost time and experience all the good things life has to offer.

And Phos loves to play.
For a while, he had younger dog friends at Hopeland who happily matched his playful energy. They have since found their forever homes, while Phos is still waiting. The older dogs around him aren't particularly interested in joining his games, leaving this playful boy without the companions he once loved having fun with.

We would therefore love to see Phos in a home where he finally gets the attention and affection he craves – and where he might have the opportunity to meet canine friends who are just as excited about playing as he is. He enjoys the company of other dogs, and seeing him able to simply run, play, and be carefree after everything he survived is something very special.

Physically, Phos has made an incredible recovery. His wounds have healed completely, although some areas will remain without fur as permanent traces of what his body survived. One of his eyes could not be saved, but Phos is not blind and sees well with his other eye. His Leishmania levels have dropped significantly and are currently inactive. He continues to receive medication and regular monitoring.

At around 35 kg and 63–64 cm, Phos has grown into a strong, impressive dog – almost unrecognisable from the fragile boy who once had to be carried to safety.

But Phos doesn't want to spend his second chance simply being safe.
He wants to live it.

He wants people who have time for him, hands that never run out of cuddles, adventures of his own, and maybe a few dog friends who actually want to play when he asks.

Phos fought unbelievably hard for the life he has today. Now he deserves a family who will help him fill it with everything he almost never got the chance to experience.
